Guy Dowsett
Sound Designer, Composer
guy at pleather dot us
A multi-instrumentalist and composer whose wide travels have helped cultivate a unique palette of influences and sounds, Guy has lived and worked as teacher and musician in many different parts of the world over the last decade. Guy’s lifelong relationship with the piano merged with the wild, wacky sounds of the Australian bush from his early years. Here, the constant chatter of indigenous birds, marsupials and bats mingled with classical music studies and Tom & Jerry scores— eventually guiding him into extended university studies in Composition at La Trobe University and the University of Melbourne’s VCA.
In Prague he was resident composer and performer for Krepsko Theatre, where he also founded and fronted carnivale group Mungo Baby. He has worked as composer and musical director in circus and theatre projects in Italy, Sweden, Finland and Germany and performed in festivals all over Europe. During his university studies at VCA and La Trobe, Guy was chosen to compose and work with some of Melbourne’s most prestigious instrumental ensembles including Woof! Percussion and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. In 2008 he delivered a workshop series encompassing music’s relationship to circus performance in Seydisfjordur, Iceland.
